About
Who is Jambo Artisans?
Jambo Artisans is a shop located in Bujumbura, Burundi. The shop was set up with the objective of providing an outlet for products made by artisans in different production centers across Burundi. All the products use natural materials and natural dyes. The income generated from the sale of products goes towards supporting over 500 artisans and their families across Burundi.
Who is Global Artisans?
Global Artisans is a non-profit organization. We focus on providing livelihoods training to unemployed youth, principally women, in rural regions of Burundi. We provide practical trainings in craftwork with a variety of natural products such as horn, sisal, raffia and banana leaves. We also offer additional training in bookkeeping and management tools that enable groups of artisans to form fully functional cooperatives. Once the artisans are fully trained we help connect them with clients based in Burundi and abroad. Our ultimate aim is to transform artisan skills into profitable businesses providing employment opportunities to rural communities.
Our Mission:
To create opportunities for economically, geographically and socially marginalized artisans through a comprehensive training program that covers the practical as well as technical requirements needed to successfully enter the artisan market.
We strive to promote Fair pay by developing positive and long lasting relationships with companies worldwide promoting fair trade.
In addition, we aim to highlight local crafts assisting artisans in developing and perfecting their skills. The income generated from artisan work, will help artisans in rural communities pay for their children’s school fees, buy nutritious food, purchase land and eventually become self-sufficient.
